As the Coronavirus or COVID-19 continues to wreak havoc across the globe, so does the spread of misinformation. There is no reason to create additional panic. In fact, with some simple tips, you can help protect your employees or workforce and help prevent the spread of misinformation or the virus.

Here are some simple steps you can take to keep your employees healthy and safe:

Frequent handwashing. Encourage your employees to wash their hands and do it on a frequent basis. However, there is a wrong and right way to effectively wash your hands and remove germs. Thoroughly lather up with soap, and rub your hands for at least 20 seconds making sure to get under your fingernails as well. You can count to 20 seconds in your head or simply sing Happy Birthday or recite your ABCs in your head.

Use a paper towel to turn off the faucet and another paper towel on the door when exiting the restroom and DO NOT touch your hands or face.

Clean and disinfect common areas and workspaces.  Break rooms and conference rooms where employees spend communal time should be thoroughly disinfected and often. Surfaces such as fridge doors, countertops, coffee makers and faucet sinks should be wiped down with antibacterial wipes or cleaner and disposable paper towels. Additionally, wipe down doorknobs, phone receivers, and even desktops.

Stay at home if you are sick. Most employees will worry about missing work or a paycheck. But it’s imperative that you allow them to stay home while they are sick to prevent the spread of germs. In fact, this should be a common practice in your workplace. If possible and if their job role allows it offer to let your employees work from home. It’s worth all the trouble if it prevents the spread of any cold or flu virus regardless of its strain.

Eliminate any unnecessary travel plans. Many conventions and conferences are already being canceled across the United States. However, if you can help it…cancel any travel plans that would expose your employees to any virus or strain of the virus.

With these simple tips, you can help prevent the spread of the Coronavirus and keep your workforce, healthy happy and safe.
